GEOMETRIC PORTRAITS
If you are having problems coming up with an idea for your Expressive Self Portrait, you can try a fun project I found online called GEOMETRIC PORTRAITS
Please download and read the handout I have attached HERE. I would like for you follow these directions or use them to create at least one geometric portrait
Using an iPad
This may be the easiest way to create your geometric portrait because you can use the tools in Autodesk Sketchbook to make layers of each part of you are drawing, on top of a photograph.
Some recommendations if you choose this method:
-Start a new document and bring in your photo for the bottom layer.
-Use the "line" tool in the "shapes" menu to draw in your lines instead of trying to draw in the lines free hand.
Using Pencil and Paper
If you choose this method, I would recommend tracing from a printed picture if you have a printer.
You can tape this picture to a window and tape another piece of paper over it to create a lightbox effect to trace the image or use tracing paper, if you have it. You can find steps on how to trace an image with a window here. This method will need to be done at home.
Some recommendations if you choose this method
I would highly recommend using a ruler to get your straight lines
I would also recommend keeping your pencil lines light until you know what parts of the drawing you want to keep.
Save any of the parts you want to make using markers, for the very last steps
